SONIA GANDHI, A REALITY CHECK.

INTRODUCTION

Patriotic Indians should thank the President of India for having the courage, by
citing a legal hitch, to dissuade Ms. Sonia Gandhi from staking her claim to
form the government on May 17th this year. She therefore, despite all the
contrived media hype, did not, and could not, become the Prime Minister of 1
billion plus people of India.

It can now be said that Bharat Mata has been saved from a monumental,
devastating, and permanent injury to her national interest and to the patriotic
psyche of Indians.

Therefore, it should be the resolve of every Indian to make any and every effort
that can be made in a democracy, to ensure that Ms. Sonia Gandhi is kept
permanently out of reckoning for any public office. For those who instinctively
understand that imperative, this Note has been written to explain the factual
basis for this rational determination, and suggest what patriotic Indians can do
now to implement that democratic and patriotic resolution.
My opposition to Ms. Sonia Gandhi is not merely because she is Italian---born,
although that by itself is a major issue. In other democratic countries,
including in Italy, such an issue [of foreign-born aspiring to be head of
government]would not even arise at all because the issue has already been
settled by incorporating into law that a person cannot hold the highest public
office unless he or she is native born.

In India there is no such law but the President, according my knowledge, has
correctly acted on a proviso to Section 5 of the Indian Citizenship Act[1955]
which requires the Union Home Ministry to lay down conditions to Indian
citizenship acquired by foreigners by registration, condition based on the
principle of reciprocity[see annexure 1 & 2]. In Ms Gandhi’s case, such of those
conditions that apply to Indians on becoming citizens of Italy, would apply to
her.

The President reportedly had communicated to Ms. Gandhi on the afternoon of May
17, 2004, that if she insisted on being invited to form the government, he would
want first to clarify, on a reference to the Supreme Court, whether in view of
this proviso her appointment as PM could be successfully challenged in the
court.

It is fair to assume that this report of the President’s decision is correct,
since the President had before him my petition dated May 15, 2004 [see
Annexure-3] making just that point--- that Ms. Gandhi’s citizenship is
conditional, and in particular she cannot be the PM legally.

The President had also given me an appointment at 12.45 PM on May 17, 2004 to
explain my submissions in person, which I did. I also told him that I would
challenge such a unconstitutional appointment in the Supreme Court just as I had
in 2001 when Ms Jayalalitha was illegally sworn in as Chief Minister by the
Tamil Nadu Governor.

In that case, the Supreme Court had after hearing me and many other
constitutional luminaries, upheld my contention that mere majority in the House
is insufficient for being sworn in to a constitutional office, and that the
constitutional appointing authority must ensure that there are no
disqualifications as well. Ms. Jayalalitha had therefore to step down because
she had been disqualified by her conviction in a trial court in the TANSI
corruption case [filed by me as a private complaint]. She was subsequently
acquitted by the Madras High Court, and hence became eligible the following
year.

I also cited to the President a 1962 Allahabad High Court case which held that
this proviso in the Citizenship Act was binding and lawful.
The nation by the stalling of Sonia becoming Prime Minister of India, has thus
got an unexpected but temporary reprieve, a reprieve received not only because
her citizenship of India by registration is not equal to one by birth even by
Indian law, but a reprieve more because of the national security risk that was
averted.

To comprehend that risk, we must however first understand who Sonia Gandhi
really is and what kind of danger she, her family and her friends in Italy, hold
for India’s national security. Very little is known about the Mainos’ murky
past, and the little that we are told about Sonia are lies. In other words,
Indians do not know who Sonia really is or what she represents [see Annexure-4].
Even for an Indian born citizen, we find it difficult to know a person’s true
background, but for a foreign-born it is extremely hard because of the
remoteness of the place and the language barrier for most people, in this
case---Italian.

This note is thus an aide d’memoir of certain verifiable facts that taken
together constitute the danger that Sonia Gandhi represents for the nation. And
that is the real Sonia and what she represents.

CliveWhat patriotic Indians can do
THREE LIES
Ms. Sonia Gandhi’s background as publicized by her and her Congress Party is
based on three lies in order to hide the ugly reality of her life.

First, her real name is Antonia not Sonia. This was revealed by the Italian
Ambassador in New Delhi in a letter dated April 27, 1983 [see Annexure-5] to the
Union Home Ministry which letter has not been made public. Antonia is Sonia’s
real name as stated in her birth certificate.
Sonia is the name given to her subsequently by her father, Stefano Maino [now
deceased]. He had been a prisoner of war in Russia during World War II. Stefano
had joined the Nazi army as a volunteer, as many Italian fascists had done.
Sonia is a Russian not Italian name. While spending two years in a Russian jail,
Sonia’s father had become quite pro-Soviet, especially after the liberating US
army in Italy had confiscated all fascists’ properties including his.

Second, Sonia was not born in Orbassano as she claims in her bio data submitted
to Parliament on becoming MP, but in Luciana as stated in her birth certificate.
She perhaps would like to hide the place of her birth because of her father’s
connection with the Nazis and Mussolini’s Fascists, and her family’s continuing
connections with the Nazi-Fascists underground that is still surviving in Italy
since the end of the War. Luciana is where Nazi-Fascist network is
headquartered, and is on the Italian-Swiss border. There can be no other
explanation for this otherwise meaningless lie.
Third, Sonia Gandhi has not studied beyond High School. But she has falsely
claimed in her sworn affidavit [see Annexure-6] filed as a contesting candidate
before the Rae Bareli Returning Officer in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, that
she qualified and got a diploma in English from the prestigious University of
Cambridge, UK.

Earlier, in 1999 in her biographical data given under her signature to the Lok
Sabha Secretariat and which was published in Parliament’s Who’s Who, she had
made the same false claim [see Annexure-7].

But later she wrote to the Lok Sabha Speaker, after I had pointed it out to him
in a written complaint of a Breach of Ethics of the Lok Sabha, that it was a
“typing mistake”. This qualifies her for inclusion thus in the the Guinness Book
of World Records as the longest typing mistake in history.
The truth is that Ms. Gandhi has never studied in any college anywhere. She did
go to a Catholic nun--run seminary school called Maria Ausiliatrice in Giaveno
[15 kms from her adopted home town of Orbassabo]. Poverty those days had forced
young Italian girls to go to such missionaries and then in their teens go to UK
to get jobs as cleaning maids, waitresses and au pair. The Mainos were poor
those days. Sonia’s father was a mason and mother a share cropper [now the
family is worth at least $ 2 billion: (see Annexure-10)].

Sonia thus went to the town of Cambridge UK and first learnt some English in a
teaching shop called Lennox School [which has since 1990 been wound up]. That is
her “education”--- enough English language to get domestic help jobs.

But since in Indian society, education is socially highly valued, thus to fool
the Indian public, Sonia Gandhi wilfully lied about her qualifications in
Parliamentary records [which is a Breach of Ethics Rules] and in a sworn
affidavit [which is criminal offence under IPC, severe enough to disqualify her
from being MP]. This also violated the spirit of the Supreme Court judgment
requiring candidates to reveal their educational qualification on an affidavit
[see Annexure-8].

These three lies indicate that Ms. Sonia Gandhi has something to hide, or has a
hidden agenda for India to brazenly fool Indians for some ulterior purpose. We
therefore need to find out more about her.
SONIA'S INTRODUCTION INTO INDIA

Ms. Sonia Gandhi upon learning enough English, became a waitress in Varsity
Restaurant in Cambridge town. She first met Rajiv when he came to the restaurant
in 1965. Rajiv was a student in the University, but could not cope with the
academic rigour for long. So he had to depart in 1966 for London where he was
briefly in Imperial College of Engineering as a student. Sonia too moved to
London, and according my information, got a job with an outfit run by Salman
Thassir, a debonair Pakistani based in Lahore, and who has a export-import
company headquartered in Dubai but who spends most of his time in London. This
fits the profile of a ISI functionary.

Obviously, Sonia made enough money in this job to loan Rajiv funds in London,
who was living beyond his allowances [Indira herself had expressed anguish to me
on this score in late 1965 when I was a young Harvard professor of economics.
She had invited me to a private tea at the Guest House in Brandeis University
where she was staying].

Rajiv’s letters to Sanjay filed in Delhi High Court by P.N. Lekhi [see
Annexure-9] clearly indicate that he was in financial debt to Sonia because he
requested Sanjay also in UK then, and who obviously had more access to money, to
pay off the debt.

However, Rajiv was not the only friend Sonia was seeing those days. Madhavrao
Scindia and a German by name Stiegler are worth mentioning as other good friends
of Sonia. Madhavrao’s friendship continued even after Sonia’s marriage to Rajiv.
Scindia in 1982 was involved in a traffic accident near IIT, Delhi main gate
while driving a car at 2 AM. Sonia was the only other passenger. Both were badly
injured. A student of IIT who was burning midnight oil was out for a cup of
coffee. He picked them up from the car, hailed an auto rickshaw and sent an
injured Sonia to Mrs Indira Gandhi’s house since she insisted in not going to a
hospital. Madhavrao had broken a leg and in too much pain to make any demand. He
was taken to hospital by the Delhi Police who had arrived a little after Sonia
had left the scene.

In later years, Madhavrao had become privately critical of Sonia, and told some
close friends about his apprehensions about her. It is a pity that he died in
mysterious circumstances in an as yet uninvestigated aircrash of his private
plane in the year 2001. Mani Shankar Aiyar and Shiela Dikshit were to be on that
flight too, but were asked to stay behind at the last moment.

The circumstance under which Rajiv hastily married Sonia in a Church in
Orbassano is controversial, but that was his personal matter which has no public
significance. What however is of public significance is that Indira Gandhi who
was initially dead set against the marriage for reasons known to her, relented
to hold a registry marriage with Hindu ceremonial trappings in New Delhi only
after the pro-Soviet T.N. Kaul prevailed upon her to accept the marriage in “the
larger interest of cementing Indo-Soviet Friendship”. Kaul would not have
intervened unless the Soviet Union had not asked him to.
SONIA'S KGB CONNECTIONS

Such has been the patronage from the beginning extended to Sonia Gandhi and her
Italian family from the Soviets. When a Prime Minister of India’s son dates a
girl in London, the KGB which valued Indo-Soviet relations, would naturally
investigate her. They had, and found out that she was the daughter of Stefano,
their old reliable Italian contact. Thus, Sonia married to Rajiv, meant deep
access for the Soviets, into the household of the Indian Prime Minister. Hence
cementing the Rajiv-Sonia relations was in the Soviet national interest and they
went to work on it. And they did, through their moles in the Indira Gandhi camp.

After her marriage to Rajiv, the Soviet connection with the Mainos was fortified
and nurtured by generous financial help through commissions and kick-backs on
every Indo—Soviet trade deal and defence purchases. According to the respected
Swiss magazine, Schweitzer Illustrate [November 1991 issue; see Annexure-10]
Rajiv Gandhi had about $2 billion in numbered Swiss bank accounts—which Sonia
inherited upon his assassination.

Dr. Yevgenia Albats, Ph.D[Harvard], is a noted Russian scholar and journalist,
and was a member of the KGB Commission set up by President Yeltsin in August
1991. She was privy to the Soviet intelligence files that documented these deals
and KGB facilitation of the same. In her book—“The State Within a State: The KGB
in the Soviet Union”, she even gives the reference numbers of such intelligence
files[see Annexure-11] which can now be accessed by any Indian government
through a formal request to the Kremlin.

The Russian Government in 1992 was confronted with the Albats’ disclosure by the
media. The official spokesperson of the government confirmed the veracity of the
disclosure [which was published in Hindu in 1992; see Annexure-12]. The
spokesperson defended such financial payments as necessary in “Soviet
ideological interest”. Part of the funds were used by the Maino family to fund
loyal Congress party candidates in the General Elections [see Annexure-13].

When the Soviet Union disintegrated in 1991, things changed for Ms. Sonia
Gandhi. Her patron nation had been disbanded into 16 countries. The rump that
became Russia was in a financial mess and disorder. So, Ms. Sonia Gandhi
switched and became a supporter of another communist country much to the
annoyance of the Russians.
The national security ramification of this ‘annoyance’ is now significant: The
President of Russia today is Putin, a former dyed-in-the-wool KGB officer. Upon
Dr. Manmohan Singh’s government taking office, Russia called back it’s career
diplomat Ambassador in New Delhi and immediately posted in his place, as the new
Ambassador, a person who was the KGB station chief in New Delhi during the
1970s.

In view of Dr. Albats revelation, it stands to reason that the new Ambassador
would have known first hand about Sonia’s connections with the KGB. He may have
in fact been her “controller” and local contact. The new Indian government today
which is defacto Sonia’s, cannot afford to annoy him or even disregard Russian
demands that come from him. The Sonia coterie will obviously seek to placate him
so as not to risk exposure. Is this not a major national security risk for India
and a delicate matter for the nation’s sovereignty?

Of course, all Indians would like good normal and healthy relations with Russia.
Who can forget their assistance to us in times of need? Today’s Russia is the
residual legatee of that Soviet Union which helped India. But just because of
that, should we tolerate those in our government set up having clandestine links
with a foreign spy agency? In the United States, the government did not tolerate
an American spying for Israel even though the two countries are as close as any
two countries can be. National security and friendship are as different as chalk
and cheese.
In December 2001, I had filed a Writ Petition in the Delhi High Court with the
photocopies of the KGB documents, and sought a CBI investigation which the
Vajpayee Government was stoutly refusing. Earlier, Minister of State for CBI,
Vasundara Raje[now Rajasthan CM], on my letter dated March 3, 2001, had ordered
the CBI to investigate. But after Sonia Gandhi and her party stalled the
proceedings of Parliament on this issue, the then Prime Minister Vajpayee
overruled and cancelled Vasundara’s direction to the CBI.
The Delhi High Court in May 2002 issued a direction to the CBI to ascertain from
Russia the truth of my charges. The CBI procrastinated for two years, and
finally told the Court that without an FIR registered, the Russians will not
entertain any such query. But who stopped the CBI from registering an FIR? The
Vajpayee government! And why? Thereby hangs another tale.

The next hearing of the case is imminent. But now Sonia is in the driver’s seat,
and the CBI has been reduced in independence even further.
SONIA'S CONTEMPT FOR LAWS OF INDIA

After Sonia married Rajiv, she and her Italian family aided by friend and Snam
Progetti’s New Delhi resident Ottavio Quattrocchi, went about minting money with
scant regard for Indian laws and treasures. Within a few years the Mainos rose
from utter poverty to become billionaires [see Annexure-14].

There was no area that was left out for the rip-off. On November 19, 1974, as
fresh entrant to Parliament, I had asked the then Prime Minister Ms. Indira
Gandhi on the floor of the House if her daughter-in-law, Sonia Gandhi, was
acting as an insurance agent of a public sector insurance company[Oriental
Fire&Insurance], giving the Prime Minister’s official residence as her business
address, and using undue influence to get insured the officers of the PMO, while
remaining as an Italian citizen[thus violating FERA]. There was an uproar in
Parliament, but Mrs. Indira Gandhi had no alternative but to cut her losses. She
made a rare admission in a written reply a few days later that it indeed was so,
and that it was by mistake, but that Sonia had resigned from her insurance
agency[after my question]. But Sonia was incorrigible. Her contempt for Indian
law continued to manifest.

The Supreme Court Justice A.C. Gupta Commission set up by the Janata Party
government in 1977 came out with a voluminous report on the Maruti Company then
owned by the Gandhi family, and has listed eight violations of FERA, Companies
Act, and Foreigners Registration Act by Sonia Gandhi. She was never prosecuted,
but can still be prosecuted because under Indian law, economic crimes are not
subject to the statute of limitation.

In January 1980, Indira Gandhi returned as Prime Minister. The first thing Sonia
did was to enroll herself as a voter. This was a gross violation of the law,
enough to cause cancellation of her visa [since she was admittedly an Italian
citizen then]. There was some hullabaloo in the press about it, so the Delhi
Chief Electoral Officer got her name deleted in 1982. But in January 1983, she
again enrolled herself as a voter even while as a foreigner [she first applied
for citizenship in April 1983] (see Annexure-15).

More recently, A.G. Noorani is his book: Citizen’s Rights, Judges, and State
Accountability records [page 318] that Ms. Sonia Gandhi had made available to a
foreign national the secret papers of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru obviously
illegally in her possession, and comments as follows:
“Sonia Gandhi has no right to hold them in her possession at all, let alone
decide whom to accord permission for access to them”
Such is her revealed disdain for Indian laws and that is her mindset even today.
She suffers from a neo-imperialist mentality.
SONIA GANDHI IS THE MODERN ROBERT CLIVE

The bottom line observed in Sonia’s mindset is that she can disregard Indian
laws with impunity. If cornered or if she becomes vulnerable to prosecution, she
can always run back to Italy. In Peru, President Fujimori who all along claimed
to be “born Peruvian”, when faced with a corruption charge fled to Japan with
his loot and reclaimed his Japanese citizenship. That is Sonia’s bottom line
fall-back option too.

In 1977, when the Janata Party defeated the Congress at the polls, and formed
the government, it widely known and published that Sonia with her two children
abandoned Indira Gandhi, and ran to the Italian Embassy in New Delhi and hid
there. Rajiv Gandhi was a government servant then[as an Indian Airlines pilot],
but he too tagged along and hid in that foreign embassy ! Such was her baneful
influence on him. Rajiv did snap out Sonia’s influence after 1989, but alas he
was assassinated before he could rectify the situation.

Those close to Rajiv knew that he was planning set things right about Sonia
after the 1991 elections. He held her to blame for all the financial scandals
that led to his defeat at the 1989 polls. She knew of it too because he had told
her on his trip to Soviet Union in February 1991. Ever wonder why Sonia’s
closest advisers are those whom Rajiv literally hated? Ambika Soni is one such
name. Ever wonder why she has asked the President of India to set aside on a
mercy petition the Supreme Court judgment directing that Rajiv Gandhi’s LTTE
killers be hanged, when she was not similiarly moved for Satwant Singh who
killed Indira Gandhi or even recently for Dhanajoy Chattopadhyaya ? The
explanation for this special consideration for the LTTE perhaps lies in what
Rajiv had told her about their future. May be therefore Sonia feels obliged to
the LTTE for the assassination. More on this later.
Those who have no love for India will not hesitate to plunder her treasures.
Mohammed Ghori, Nadir Shah, and the British scum in the East India Company such
as Robert Clive, made no secret of it. But Sonia Gandhi has been more discreet,
but as greedy, in her looting of Indian treasures. When Indira Gandhi and Rajiv
Gandhi were Prime Ministers, not a day passed when the PM’s security did not go
to the New Delhi, or Chennai international airport to send crates and crates of
Indian antiques and other treasures, unchecked by customs, to Rome. Air India
and Alitalia were the chosen carriers. For organizing all this, Mr. Arjun Singh
first as CM, later as Union Minister in charge of Culture, was her hatchet man.
Indian temple sculpture of gods and goddesses, antiques, pichwai paintings,
shatoosh shawls, coins, and you name it, were transported to Italy to be first
displayed in two shops [see Annexure-16] owned by her sister, Anuskha alias
Alessandra Maino Vinci. These shops located in blue-collar areas of Rivolta[shop
name: Etnica] and Orbassano [shop name: Ganpati] did little business because
which blue collar Italian wants to buy Indian antiques ? The shops were there to
make false bills, and thereafter these treasures were taken to London for
auction by Sotheby’s and Christies.

Some of this ill-gotten money from auction went into the bank accounts of Rahul
Gandhi in the National Westminister Bank and Hongkong & Shanghai Bank, London
branches, but most of it found it’s way into the Gandhi family account in the
Bank of America in Cayman Islands. Rahul’s expenses and tuition fees for the one
year he was at Harvard, was paid from that Cayman Island account [see
Annexures-17].

What kind of people are these Gandhi-Mainos that bite the very hand of Bharat
Mata that fed them and gave them a good life? How can the nation trust or
tolerate such greedy thieves of national treasures?
Since I failed to persuade the Vajpayee government to defend India’s treasures
from plunder by the Mainos, I approached the Delhi High Court in a PIL. The
first Bench of the court issued notice to the Government, but since the Indian
government dragged it’s feet, the Court directed the CBI to seek Interpol’s and
Italian government’s help. The Italian government justifiably asked for a Letter
Rogatory for which a FIR is a pre-requisite. But the Interpol did oblige and
submitted two voluminous reports on the shops which the Court directed the CBI
to hand over to me. But CBI has so far refused, and has claimed privilege!

This question will be argued out at the next hearing of my PIL.
The CBI has also been caught lying in court by telling the judges that
Alessandra Maino is a name of a man, and Via Bellini 14, Orbassano is a name of
a village[not the street address of the Maino’s residence]. Although the CBI
counsel had to apologise later to the court stating he had made a mistake, he
has been promoted to Additional Solicitor General by the new government! Why was
he appointed as the CBI’s counsel by the Vajpayee government in the first place?
The Vajpayee-Sonia mutual assistance pact is thus in full view in this episode.

But the most sinister aspect of Sonia Gandhi’s links is her connection with
terrorists. I am still working on it, but she has had long connection with the
Habash group of Palestinians [PFLP], and has funded Palestinian families that
lost their kith and kin in a suicide bombing or hijacking episode. This fact,
Rajiv Gandhi himself told me and was confirmed to me [the funding aspect] by
Yassir Arafat when I met him in Tunis on October 17, 1990 at the request of
Rajiv Gandhi. Rajiv and I were good friends from 1978, but became very close
friends after V.P. Singh had betrayed him in 1987. We met practically every day,
mostly in the early hours from 1AM to 4AM, discussed, chatted and gossiped on
every topic. It was at my suggestion that Rajiv made Chandrashekhar the PM. And
contrary to public impression, he was not mainly responsible for fall of
Chandrashekar government[of which I was a Minister].
Besides the Palestinian extremists, the Maino family have had extensive business
dealings with Saddam Hussein [see Annexure-18], and surprisingly since 1984 with
the LTTE [“the Tamil Tigers”]. Sonia’s mother Paola Predebon Maino, and
businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi are the main contacts with the Tigers. The
mother used the LTTE for money laundering and Quattrocchi for selling weapons to
earn commissions. Sonia’s conduit to the LTTE has been and is through Arjun
Singh who uses Bangalore as the nodal point for contact.
There is a string of circumstantial evidence pointing to the prima facie
possibility that the Maino family may have contracted with the LTTE to kill
Rajiv Gandhi. The family may have assured the LTTE that nothing would happen to
them because they would ensure it is blamed on the Sikhs or the evidence so much
fudged that no court would convict them[ the LTTE intercepted transcripts show
this expectation of the LTTE]. But D.R. Karthikeyan of the CBI who led the SIT
investigation got the support of Narasimha Rao, cracked the case, and succeeded
in getting the LTTE convicted in the trial court, which conviction was upheld by
the Supreme Court in 1999.

Although on the involvement of some members of the Congress Party in the
assassination, DRK soft peddled it ignoring a number of leads perhaps because he
did not want political controversy to put road blocks on his investigation as a
whole.

The Justice J. S. Verma Commission, which was set up as the last official act of
the Chandrashekhar government before demitting office on June 21, 1991, did find
that the Congress leaders had disrupted the security arrangements for the
Sriperumbudur meeting. The Commission wanted further probe into it but the Rao
government rejected that demand. In the meantime under Sonia’s pressure, the
Jain Commission was set up by the Rao government, which tried to muddy the
waters and thus exonerate the LTTE. But the trial court judgment convicting the
LTTE came earlier than the Commission could conclude, and that sinister effort
therefore too failed.

Nowadays, Sonia is quite unabashed in having political alliance with those who
like MDMK, PMK, and DMK praise Rajiv Gandhi’s killers. No Indian widow would
ever do that. Such circumstances are many, and raise a doubt. My investigations
into Sonia’s involvement in Rajiv’s assassination is therefore necessary. I am
also author of a best seller titled Assassination Of Rajiv Gandhi—Unasked
Questions and Unanswered Queries[published by Konark in 2000] in which I have
given some indications of this possible conspiracy.
Is it not significant that the political career graph of Sonia Gandhi advances
concomitantly with a series of assassinations and apparently accidental deaths?

How did Sanjay’s plane on June 23, 1980 nosedive to a crash and yet the plane
fuselage failed to explode upon impact? There was no fuel ! How was that
possible since flight register shows full tank before take-off ? Why was there
no inquiry conducted ?

Is it not a fact that Indira Gandhi died because of loss of blood from the
wounds and not directly due to a bullet impacting her head or heart ? Then is it
not strange that Sonia had insisted that the bleeding Indira be driven to Lohia
Hospital-- in the opposite direction to AIIMS which had a contingency protocol
set up for precisely such an event ? And after reaching Lohia Hospital, did not
Sonia change her mind and demand that they all drive to AIIMS thus losing 24
valuable minutes ?

The same kind of mystery surrounds the sudden deaths of Sonia’s other political
roadblocks such as Rajesh Pilot, Jitendra Prasad, and Madhavrao Scindia. Such
untimely deaths happened in the dark ages in Italy. Should we allow it to happen
in India like dumb cattle going to slaughter?
WHAT PATRIOTIC INDIANS CAN DO

We have to ensure that the Maino clan does not stay in power. Dr. Manmohan Singh
may be PM, which is a small relief, but he is not a fighter. The real power in
government today is wielded by the Maino mafia gang. Can they be dethroned? I
argue that they must be, for India’s integrity and democracy.

In Indian democracy, other than by losing majority, only a shocking scandal can
unseat a government. Today’s priority is however not for toppling the Congress
government as such, since Manmohan Singh is a decent and scholarly person, but
in driving the Maino clan out of India. If the only way that can be done is by
toppling the Singh government, then so be it. But the successor government
should be such that it will not protect Sonia and her clan as Vajpayee’s did.

It will although not be long before Sonia will give Manmohan Singh marching
orders, and he will march out meekly. We should not expect him to resist. Thus
time with patriotic Indians is limited.
With Sonia’s defacto government in place, it is also unrealistic to expect that
I can get an early victory in the courts on the KGB and antique smuggling cases.
The most potent scandal at hand, therefore, that can dislodge the Maino
clan[including Rahul and Priyanka] lies in exposing their existing Italian
citizenship. That will galvanise the people.
In 1992, Sonia had revived her citizenship of Italy under Article 17 of the
Italian Citizenship Law [Act 91 of 1992]. Rahul and Priyanka were born Italian
citizens because Sonia was Italian when she gave birth to them[Italian law based
on jure sanguinis]. (see Annexure-19) Hence, they continue be Italians since
they have never renounced their citizenship upon becoming 21 years old. Both,
Rahul and Priyanaka have been traveling abroad on Italian passports. They may
now acquire Venezuela passports too, since Rahul Gandhi’s wife, Veronica, is a
Venezuelan. (See annexure- 20)That means one more foreign bahu for us tolerant
Indians. The Maino-Gandhis are certainly getting Indian society globalised in
their own selfish way.

To end Bharat Mata’s shame and pain, what can patriotic Indians do in a
democracy?
As a first step there is an urgent need to document the facts about their
citizenship on notarized paper, for which we need to set up a network in London,
Milan, Hongkong, and in Venezuela. Those persuaded by my above stated facts and
arguments may join in and help set up this network. Other steps can come later
once this is accomplished.

Rising prices not government failure?

Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday welcomed a debate on the rising prices which, he said, was not a government failure and could be discussed but not voted on.

Unless the central government "fails to discharge its duties enjoined by the constitution of the law", the matter could not be discussed under the adjournment motion, which entails voting, Mukherjee said in the Lok Sabha.

Intervening on the debate on whether the house should allow the adjournment notices moved by the opposition, he said: "My limited point is that I have some reservations about admitting this motion as adjournment."

Quoting rules, he said the issue to be discussed under the adjournment motion has "to be definite, and it must be related to the functioning of the government".

He said the decision-makers were not taking any "sadistic pleasure" from hiking fuel prices. "There are certain compulsions. I had certain compulsions. Rates of crude oil in the international market have gone up. There has not been any failure of the government."

Mukherjee, who is the leader of the house, however, welcomed a debate on the rising prices. "All aspects of the issue will be debated with remedial measures. If opposition members have constructive measures (to suggest) I will welcome that."

"We will like to discuss the issue. I have no problem in having a discussion. The government welcomes that but this cannot be discussed under adjournment motion," he stressed.

Speaker Meira Kumar had earlier allowed MPs to debate on whether the house should allow the adjournment notices that opposition members see as an instrument of censure against the government's policies.

After a brief commotion and protests by a united opposition, the speaker said she was allowing the members who had given her adjournment notices to speak under "special circumstances".

Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj was the first to justify her notice, saying "it was cent percent according to the house rules".

"The adjournment motion that entails voting means stopping all other businesses, and discuss an issue of urgent importance that has occurred recently. The notice I have given has raised has two points... recent hikes in (the prices of ) kerosene and the cooking gas," Swaraj said.

The June 26 fuel price hike has put poor men of the country into "grave hardships", she said. "This needs urgent attention and calls for stalling all other business to be discussed on top priority."

She said the opposition wants to "censure" the government over its wrong pricing policies. "This is a censure motion. This is to censure the government. The government won't fall. But we definitely want to censure this government because they are troubling the common man."

Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh said the opposition was "expressing the sentiments of the people as 85-90 percent of the population are suffering due to rising prices".

"People are dying due to starvation," he said, supporting the adjournment motion.

Sharad Yadav of the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) said the opposition didn't want the government to fall. "We want to stop rising prices. We want to jolt the government out of a slumber."

Lalu Prasad of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) said there was no dispute within the opposition over the price rise issue. "We are united and want the government to take corrective measures."

After listening to the viewpoints of the opposition and the government, the speaker adjourned the house till 2 p.m."
If rising prices are not government failure then whose failure they are? Are they the failure of the Opposition? Are they the failure of Govt. of some other country? Is there some foreign hand in it? Govt. must explain to the people of this country.

Beware India !

Irresponsible State Government and Unconcerned Congress Responsible for Present Turmoil in Kashmir

n

Since past 20 days it is complete Bandh in the Valley. Curfew is imposed by Separatists not government agencies.

n

Throughout the Valley there are sit-In demonstations. At hundred of plaus, thousands of people come and participate in these demonstrations. Slowly the movement has entered into the new phase from "Agitaional terrorism" to "Civil Disobedience" . All Political parties become non-existent. Their cadre is acting according to the instructions of Separatist.

n

Centre and State forces are not successful in breaking this deadlock. The mood of the public and Separatists is to prolong the agitation for a long period.

n

So When the intermediator of Centre tries to being the Separatist leadership for talks, they laiddown three pre-conditions.

1- Resignation of Umar Abdullah as Chief Minister of J&K

2- Release of political detenus from the Jail and bringing all Kashmiri gailed terrorist from rest of country to State.

3- Withdrawl of Army from Civil areas and abolistion of AFSPA.
n

Whole of the Movement has turned into movement of AZADI. They are Sensing Victory.

n

Instead of contolling the situation C.M. is talking for demand of autonmy, political resolution according to the wishes of people of kashmir and amendments in AFSPA. Centre deeplessly watching the situation going out of control.

n

Time demands that first you control the situation in the Valley with Iron Hand, otherwise the situation could become out of control in near future. Cenral Government should be pressurised to act quickly and must not indulge in the talks, dialogue with the Separatists or demoralizing of security forces by giving unnecessary statements or instructions.

Kashmir is once again in trouble. Security forces are being abused by Kashmiri youth. They are being humiliated by State as wel as Centre Govt,Anti-national elements are dancing openly in the Valley, Tricolor is being burnt by pro-Pakistan organisations, Slogans like Indians and Dogs are not allowed in Kashmir are being chanted during protests in valley. State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah fully Supported by Congress is behaving like a boss of any Pro-Pakistani Organization.

The "explosive" situation in the Kashmir Valley is the result of the "politics of competitive communalism" between the National Conference and the opposition PDP and the lack of timely action by the central government, which was in turn being exploited by Pakistan . when separatists devised stone-pelting as an instrument of organized and orchestrated protest, the government failed to curb the trend, instead of acting tough against the professional stone pelters, the government declared a rehabilitation package for "stone pelters". Govt.of India is appeasing only Separatists in J&K State Govt.(NC-Congress Coalition)governmen t has demoralized the security forces. The government allowed the situation to drift further. It booked CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) and BSF(Boarder Security Force) personnel for the death of a youth in the protest on the charges of murder.

Omar Abdullah has Full support of Congress led UPA Govt. The current Turmoil has not emerged in a day or two, It is the result anti-national policies framed by State and the Centre govt.since Omar Abdullah became the Chief Minister of J&K STATE . Some of the reasons behind present turmoil are:-

Congress Backed Omar Abdullah as CM

In some way, the genesis of his problems goes back to the manner of his takeover as CM. All through During the election campaign, the NC had projected Farooq Abdullah as the chief ministerial candidate of the party. Soon after the result, the senior Abdullah had declared himself to be the CM-in-waiting. But the situation underwent a change overnight and Omar became the CM with the backing of Rahul Gandhi. The rest is history but the tensions within the family have not subsided, even though Farooq Abdullah is a minister in the Union government. Congress party know that Farooq Abdullah is a claver and very experienced politician who boldly handled the crisis in Kashmir in the past, inspite of all the knowing Congress backed inexperienced, im-mature and incompetent Omar Abdullah as CM of the most sensitive state. The Congress Party sideline the former CM Ghulam Nabi Azad and appointed Prof.Saifu-den- Soz as Congress state president.Prof. Soz has very close inclination with separatist organization in Kashmir Valley.Very soon Im-mature Omar Abdullah showed his intention by adopting the separatist agenda, asking centre govt.to grant more Autonomy to the J&K State and stressed Centre govt. to Withdraw Army from Kashmir Valley. This boosted the moral oh anti-india elements in valley and they started raising their heads.

Withdrawal of Army from Kashmir Valley

As Omar Abdullah perusing the agenda of pro-Pakistani separatists. He once again managed the Congress leaders over Withdrawal of Army from J&K,Defence Minister A.K. Antony announced the withdrawal of nearly 30,000 Indian Army soldiers from Jammu and Kashmir and said more troops will be withdrawn if the situation improves.

"it is because of the presence of the army that we have been able to counter terrorism in the J&K state, since independence Home Minister P. Chidambaram has been seeking transfer of law and order responsibility to the state police Which has officers having sympathy with anti-india groups. Many surrendered terrorists has been recruited in JK Police upon which Mr.Home Minister showed trust.

The Indian Army withdrawn its troops from Kashmir Valley and Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir in a move seen as a confidence building measure to get Kashmiri separatists, especially the hardliners, on board for talks.

The twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch were brought under the Disturbed Area Act along with the Kashmir Valley in July 1990 and the security forces were given special powers under Armed Forces Special Powers Act around the same time.

What happened after that, infiltration raised, terrorists again started their activities with high moral.

Surrendered Policy for Terrorists

No doubt Jammu and Kashmir have been the victim of unending and unmindful political game plans over the years. But in the recent times the styles of the political local leadership in Kashmir valley has been taking worrying new face lifts. Politicians do not allow any time to the common man worth assessing their ( politicians) commitments before they start a new game. J&K has seen many such games. PM´s round table conferences and the PM´s working group recommendations had provided enough material to the main stream political parties and separatist leaders in J&K to remained in news. No doubt the politicians have so far succeeded to rule the imaginations of the innocent people of J&K ( Kashmir Valley in particular ). The common man is more occupied in struggling to earn even two square meals .

A new subject has been thrown for discussions by Omar Abdullah on this February 7 in the name of formulating a new surrender policy for the Kashmiri youths in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) . Omar while addressing a Conference on Internal Security chaired by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on February 7 said that to encourage more terrorists to return to State and manage their transition to civilian life, a new surrender and rehabilitation policy of terrorists is under active consideration of his Government.

"The idea that any Terrorist who had crossed over to PoK and wishes to return India is certainly welcome," Home Minister P Chidambaram backed the proposal mooted by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Significantly, his statement counters the view of his Cabinet colleague and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad who has questioned the idea of allowing the return as he apprehended that they could come here to "create trouble"..

Chidambaram said that a surrender and rehabilitation policy should be formulated to allow Kashmiris terrorists to return from PoK.( Pakistan occupied Kashmir )

However, Azad ,union health minister and former Chief-Minister of J&K State questioned the idea, apprehending it could be used as a cover by Pakistan to push foreign militants into India .

"Who will take guarantee of these youth willing to return? How can you prove that these are the same youth who had gone to that side for arms training and are now willing to come back on their own choice? Some foreign terrorists can take advantage of this move," said the Union Health Minister and senior Congress leader from the state on Tuesday.

" Pakistan has not handed over the accused involved in the Mumbai terror attacks so far. Who can trust them in this case? There are chances of adopting a strategy to push militants (into India ) taking cover of this surrender policy," By this way once again Congress backstabbed the nationalist forces by appeasing antinational

Justice Sagheer Ahmed’sReport on 5 th WG.

Justice Saghir’s 5th Working group report has in a way demonstrated unjust regional bias in J&K)

Report of the5th Working Group( on centre state relation) headed by Retd Justice S Saghir Ahmad ( constituted by Indian Prime Minister in May 2006 ) that was presented to JK Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at Jammu on 23 rd December last year demonstrated the confusions that Justice Saghir Ahmed carried.

The report has made just passing references to Greater Autonomy of NC, Autonomy Resolution 2000 of J&K Assembly, Self Rule of PDP and Article 370 .There is nothing new in the report about these subjects. Only thing that could emerge is that National Conference and PDP could use some passing references to keep the people of Kashmir Region in illusions as regards future of centre state relations .In view of the non serious approach of the GOI regarding the questions raised on the accession of J&K with India or the talks of some conditional accession, it has to be accepted that for a common man of J&K ( particularly Kashmir valley ) there is some thing still pending as regards deciding the relations between Indian and Kashmir ( J&K State of Hari Singh ). So, it was only the reference to Autonomy / Self Rule / Article 370 that did matter as regards Kashmir Valley to those in power seat. No objections have been made from the leaders from Kashmir Valley to the text of the report concerning subjects like Autonomy / Self Rule / Article 370 . Just reference of these subjects for consideration has been satisfying for the Valley leaders including NC and PDP ( even Congress leaders of Valley ). Where as even non conclusive and half references have attracted objections from the leadership belonging to Jammu Region, Ladakh region and Kashmiri migrant Hindu. This shows that the affairs of J&K have regional orientations and Saghir Ahmed working group report too could not escape the divisive shades. Both NC and PDP well know that neither Self Rule nor greater autonomy would be endorsed by New Delhi . But to secure some footing against the separatists and anti 1947 Accession ideologists they have to keep accusing New Delhi for not being FAIR towards "THE KASHMIR". Those who call J&K a matter of political dispute of extra territorial dimensions and hold separatist ideologies negating the 1947 accession of J&K had no interest in working group agenda and the report. The references on Autonomy / Self Rule / Article 370 have been totally rejected by the leaders from Jammu and Ladakh regions because it dilute the Indian sovernity in j&k.Once again Congress ditched the nationalist forces by appeasing separatists in J&K.

Rehabilitation Policy For Stone Pelters

On March 19,2010 Chief minisrer Omar Abdullah told the L egislative Assembly that a policy of "Rehabilitation for stone pelters is in the offing.

He said "if those holding guns can be rehabilitated why not stone pelters they are ours. I do not want to arrest anyone (stone pelters), but I am forced to take such steps."

The Opposition had demanded that such a policy matter should have been brought on the floor of the House and not expressed through the media.

Abdullah said that Masjid and Mohalla committees had come forward with their guarantees for release of the arrested youth.

"But who supports them? It is the Opposition benches which support them," he said and took a dig on opposition PDP by saying, "if stones are meant for Omar Abdullah and his government, they should dare to cross through Maisuma ( Srinagar ), Anantnag and Cement Bridge (Baramulla).

" They tried the guns, and it didn’t work. The armed forces in Kashmir are under strict orders not to fire at anyone unless fired upon themselves, so they (the protesters) resort to stone pelting.

Stone Pelting has great advantages over bullets -
1. Freely available, and greatly abundant.
2. Stones are not categorized as weapons, so do not attract firing from the armed forces.
3. No skill-set required for stone pelting.
4. Children can be easily employed to throw stones with the accuracy and impact as good as those of adults.

5. Stone pelting is not considered a terrorist activity

Now ,when the situation in Kashmir valley has slipped from the hands of Omar Abdullah had claimed at more than one occasion that the young men are given money to pelt stones .He also claimed that a major business house in the valley was providing funds for stone-throwing incidents and revealed that intelligence agencies have also intercepted calls from across the border and SMSs by some separatist leaders, encouraging the youth to throw stones at security forces. It is again the wrong policies of Congress govt.that worrisome the situation in Kashmir Valley.

Demoralising the Security Forces

On the name of Human Rights Violation,State govt.targetting our security forces in Kashmir valley.Security forces have been given special powers to deal with terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir but State chief minister trying his best for the revocation of such laws like AFSPA .This Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), was passed on September 11, 1958 by the Parliament of India. It conferred special powers upon armed forces in what the language of the act calls "disturbed areas" in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. It was later extended to Jammu and Kashmir as the The Armed Forces ( Jammu and Kashmir ) Special Powers Act, 1990 in July 1990

According to the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), in an area that is proclaimed as "disturbed", an officer of the armed forces has powers to:

·

"Fire upon or otherwise use force, even to the causing of death, against any person who is acting in contravention of any law" against "assembly of five or more persons" or possession of deadly weapons.

·

To arrest without a warrant and with the use of "necessary" force anyone who has committed certain offenses or is suspected of having done so

·

To enter and search any premise in order to make such arrests.

Very ist step was the withdrawal of 35000 Army Soldiers from J&K and then A senior BSF officer, who was suspended in connection with the killing of a 16-year-old boy was arrested in Srinagar .

Commandant R K Birdi, , was arrested and was handed over to the local police .He was arrested after union Home minister P.Chdambram gave his consent to arrest the officer and hand over the case to local Police. Mr.Birdi ordered the BSF Jawans to fire tear gas shells when a mob of anti-nationals in Srinagar attack the BSF Patrol Party.

Birdi’ along with a BSF jawan Lakhvinder Kumar were arrested

After another killing of a teenager in sopore,J&K Law minister Ali Momhad Sagar openly critisized CRPF by saying that it is out of control. In reply to that CRPF said it was forced to open fire at a mob in Kashmir, which claimed one life, as the protestors had attacked the force’s post outside Sopore town. The CRPF said it had no option but to open fire to secure the post, where local police had taken shelter, from the stone-pelting mob. The paramilitary force in a statement said that at 1230 pm, a mob of about 700 attacked a CRPF company location at Kapra theatre located outside Sopore town on Kupwara road. ‘The post had only the minimal strength of men for attending to camp security as the other men were away on duty. The Jammu and Kashmir Police had deployed a section of unarmed men for law and order duty at the naka (cordon), outside the company location. Their task was to prevent the mob from entering into the town, as part of the call for ‘Sopore Chalo’. ‘The mob attacked the J&K policemen by pelting stones. When the situation became bad, these men rushed inside the CRPF camp to take shelter. The mob pushed on, attacked the CRPF post and forcibly tried to enter the CRPF post crossing the compound wall,’ . It said that at this juncture, sensing imminent threat of being run over, the sentry of CRPF, at the ‘morcha’ inside the post, was compelled to open fire. ‘This was a clear case of attempt to attack the post of security force, which was foiled by timely intervention of the sentry on duty. In fact, the sentry had no option but to fire, to prevent the post being overrun,

Nearly 2000 CRPF men and five hundred policemen have been injured in stone pelting incidents and around 373 vehicles have been damaged..

During the past one and a half year the state government had tried to demoralise the security forces to appease the fundamentalists and other secessionist forces active in the valley.Situation in the valley had been deteriorating with every passing day.Once again it the Congress which is playing the game of "Ghosts"

Resoulation Passed in All Party Meeting

After a 4-hour long meeting on July 12 in the state’s summer capital, Srinagar, the all-party meet convened and chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah came out with a six-point resolution which The CM released to the Press. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP), which together have 25 MLAs in the Assembly, did not attend the meeting, saying nothing positive would emerge out of it as the Chief Minister had vitiated Kashmir’s political scene to the point that only his resignation could restore the people’s confidence in the state apparatus. The PDP and JKNPP, which maintain cordial relations, have seen in the crisis an invaluable opportunity to settle scores with the National Conference (NC) and recapture political power.

The most controversial points, which are sure to encourage the separatists to heighten their anti-India activities, were two. One was the decision of the all-party meet to "ascertain the circumstances leading to the death of civilians." This decision was consistent with what the PDP and several supporters of the Kashmiri separatists, including the human rights industry-wallahs, stood for and advocated. BJP dissociated itself from this part of the resolution. Its national general secretary Arun Jaitley declared on July 13 in Delhi that the "BJP is not party to this part of the resolution and, at the same time, assured the NC-led government of his party’s unstinted support that it would help it restore peace in the troubled-Kashmir - trouble, according to him, being fomented by Pakistan agencies under a "well-crafted strategy supported by local separatists. " Mr Omar Abdullah also declared that the "BJP is not party to this part of the resolution." The second controversial point was the decision that "urged the state government to strengthen the ongoing peace process speedup internal and external dialogue." The PDP, whose single-point agenda has been to destabilize J&K and tarnish its image in the eyes of the people, especially Kashmiri Muslims; the separatist outfits and their supporters in different parts of India , including human rights-wallahs who have no love lost for India and behave like mercenaries, must be feeling jubilant. The six-point resolution not only talked about an "impartial inquiry into the circumstances leading to the death of civilians" and "peace process" according "internal and external dialogue", but did not say anything against those who took the law of the land into their hands for days together, attacked the symbols of the Indian state, challenged the very sovereignty of India, dotted Kashmir’s political scene with innumerable violent incidents, attacked the security forces and created a serious law and order problem. They must be feeling satisfied that they have succeeded in putting the Chief Minister on the mat by creating an environment that unnerved him and forced him to request New Delhi to deploy the Army in the affected areas of the Kashmir Valley to help restore calm. Army deployment after a span of fifteen years sent a message across the world that the situation in Kashmir was beyond control and that the people were not with India . New Delhi should have rejected outright the demand of the Chief Minister, who, like the PDP and Kashmiri separatists, had opposed and criticized the institution of the Army and CRPF, overlooking the fact that as Chief Minister he had presided over the Unified Command meetings where all kinds of security-related decisions had been taken from time to time. By not rejecting Omar Abdullah’s demand, New Delhi walked into the trap laid by vested interests and anti-India forces. New Delhi should have spurned Abdullah because the Chief Minister, instead of defending the institution of the Army and paramilitary forces, repeatedly questioned their actions.

As previously mentioned, the resolution of the all-party meeting urged the "state government and the Centre" to "act upon the two main suggestions (an independent inquiry and peace process, coupled with internal and external dialogue,) that emerged during the meeting. This means the resolution has (i) urged the Union Government to not only engage in a meaningful manner Pakistan and Kashmiri separatists to clinch the Kashmir issue in a manner that satisfies them, and (2) talked of an inquiry directed against the security forces involved in anti-insurgency operations. These two highly controversial and separatist-friendly suggestions, if given effect to, would automatically and immediately mean – (1) demoralization of the security forces, which may give an upper hand to our reckless political class and (2) major concessions to Pakistan and Kashmiri separatists at the cost of the Indian nation, Indian sovereignty and Indian unity and integrity, and even at the cost of the values our political leaders profess to espouse.

Thus, the message from an otherwise divided and fragmented Srinagar is loud and clear:

The ball is in New Delhi ’s court. It is for New Delhi to create an atmosphere that induces the separatists and other unruly groups, plus the stone-throwing hooligans and paid workers, to help restore peace in Kashmir . The state government has washed its hands off, nowhere accepting responsibility for what happened in Kashmir during the past about 50 days. It has nowhere suggested that the state government allowed the situation to deteriorate day by day, thus enabling anti-national forces to regroup and mobilize disgruntled elements, including unemployed youth, hooligans and drug addicts, to disturb and bloody the whole Valley. Can New Delhi vouch for what the all-party meeting resolution suggested? The answer is both yes and no. Yes, because the Home Minister has indicated that the Union Government could take a "political initiative" after the "cycle of violence comes to an end." This suggests that the Union Government is not averse to the idea of engaging the Kashmiri separatists. This happened during the BJP-led NDA regime twice, and it can happen now as well.Union Government should not accept the demands being put forth from time to time by the Kashmiri separatists, leave aside Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who would not accept anything short of Azadi. Not because there is none in the Indian political establishment who is prepared to do what the all-party meet resolution wants; there are elements in the Indian political establishment who are willing to go even beyond. Their problem is Indian public opinion, which is against the idea of New Delhi giving any concessions either to the Kashmiri separatists or to Islamabad . Indian public opinion does not even favour of the idea of the state getting more autonomy or self-rule because it believes this would not only negate the very Constitution of India, but would empower the "sectarian and separatist" leadership in Kashmir to further jeopardize the general political and economic rights and interests of the nationalist forces in the state.

The Chief Minister, in particular, would do well not to play with fire. Instead of yielding and putting forth unacceptable demands, he should reform himself and assert. He needs to wrest the initiative and tell protestors, whosoever they are, to behave and see reason or be prepared for stern action. He cannot pass the buck. Such an approach would not work because J&K is not an easy state. It would create more problems than resolve existing ones if one adopts the approach the all-party meet adopted. What had aggravated the situation in Kashmir ? What helped Islamabad and Islamabad-supported and funded Lashkar-e-Taiba, United Jihad Council, Hizbul Mujahideen, All-Party Huriyat Conference (Mirwaiz) and Tehrik-e-Hurriyat of Syed Ali Shah Geelani stoke more fire in the Valley? What was the response of New Delhi and the Jammu & Kashmir Government to what the anti-national forces, including Pakistani-inspired stone-throwing hooligans, did to vitiate the atmosphere in Kashmir ? What did the opposition PDP do to further complicate the already complicated situation in the sensitive state? What aggravated the situation in Kashmir was the politics of competitive communalism by the two Kashmir-based mainstream (sic) political outfits, NC and PDP and even Congress . The PDP, which was in a state of shock since it handed over the office of Chief Minister to Congress in November 2005, consistently put forth demands which were not only brazenly anti-India, anti-Army, anti-CRPF and anti-Armed Forces Special Powers Act, but also patently pro-Pakistan, pro-separatist, pro-terrorist and pro-stone throwing unruly mobs. It was expected that the NC-lCongress coalitation government would behave like a responsible government and take on the PDP and all outfits who tried to foment anti-India and anti-state government troubles. What happened was to the contrary. The NC leadership thought it prudent to walk into the dangerous trap meticulously laid by the canny PDP. Instead of countering the insidious propaganda and baneful influence of the main opposition party, the ruling NC tried to take a more radical stand on each and every issue the PDP raked up, thus making it extremely difficult for people to distinguish between the two, and enabling Pakistan and Pakistan-backed agents in Kashmir to exploit the situation to the extent possible. The ruling party, like the opposition PDP, which was constitutionally bound to defend the Indian Constitution, the Army and other Indian institutions, adopted a line that created difficulties for the state government itself. One fine day, the Chief Minister publicly warned the stone-pelting force to behave failing which action would be taken against them. But soon he changed his stand and came out with a rehabilitation package for the stone-pelting boys, sending a wrong signal and promoting the cult of stone. The state government thus walked into the PDP’s trap, facilitating the task of Kashmiri extremists and their master, Pakistan . It was expected that the Congress, a national party with stakes all over the country, would behave maturely and apply brakes whenever required. But its Kashmir-based leaders, particularly the state president, adopted a soft approach towards the troublemakers and on many occasions spoke the language of the PDP. His was a line consistent with what the NC and PDP had been pursuing religiously and relentlessly for quite some time. The result was that there remained none in troubled-Kashmir who could say what was right and what was wrong. As for New Delhi , it did not act when it should have. Instead, it issued statements from time to time indicating that policy-makers in the Centre, rulers in Kashmir , and the main opposition PDP, were one as far as their approach to Jammu & Kashmir was concerned. Each one of them created an impression that the revival of the democratic process in the state and resolution of the so-called Kashmir problem were two different things. New Delhi did not even once make it clear that it would not allow anyone to tinker with Indian sovereignty in Kashmir and that it would not allow anyone in Kashmir to speak a single word against the Indian Constitution and other Indian institutions. Instead, it talked of quiet diplomacy, unique solution to the Kashmir problem, amendments in the AFSPA, lowering of guard in terrorist-infested Kashmir , dialogue with Kashmiri separatists, and peace process with Pakistan . That Delhi ’s approach would create additional complications was evident, and it happened. New Delhi acted when it was too late, when vested interests and anti-India forces had already set ablaze the whole Kashmir Valley . No wonder that the situation has assumed alarming proportions, far worse than what we witnessed during 1989-1990.

Keen Kashmir-watchers describe the present situation as most dangerous, and say that the entire political class in the Kashmir Valley is responsible for what happened during the past 50 dreadful days and that it would take years and years for things to stabilize, subject to the condition that the ruling party in the state and New Delhi does not make any political statement that has international ramifications and directly or indirectly promotes communalism, secessionism and extremism in Kashmir. It is difficult to avoid the conclusion that the authorities in the state and at the Centre are not likely to learn lessons from their past mistakes. The Chief Minister’s July 9 statement that the "stone-pelting incidents and strikes in the Valley are ‘symptoms’ of a wider problem’’ and that "there is a problem in Jammu & Kashmir that needs to be resolved," and the report that New Delhi would take the political initiative to win over the hearts and minds of the Kashmiri people (read Muslims) and engage what certain elements in New Delhi call "moderates like the Mirwaiz and Yasin Malik," to find out ways and means to resolve the Kashmir issue, indicate that neither the NC nor New Delhi would ever learn. The statement by Union Minister and NC president, Farooq Abdullah, in Delhi on July 10 that New Delhi must talk to the separatists as this was the only course left to restore peace in Kashmir also indicates that he and his party have learnt nothing.

Here lies the basic problem. The Indian State is unwilling to move against the jihadis. Unless the authorities categorically say that Jammu & Kashmir is an integral part of India and that they shall not allow the politics of communalism and separatism to grow in Kashmir , there is no possibility a return to normalcy. The authorities have to act and comprehensively defeat the negative forces and jihadis at any cost. At the same time, they have to take on board those who have been holding the Indian flag in the state, braving all odds. They are in a majority and they include the people of Jammu and Ladakh and the internally-displace d Kashmiri Hindus. They are Indians in the true sense of the term and hence the only stakeholders in the state.

New Delhi must reject outright the all-party resolution as it is fraught with dangerous consequences. It must make it loud and clear that Kashmir is not Jammu & Kashmir and that it would introduce only such reforms that can integrate the state fully into India , and empower the grossly ignored Jammu and Ladakh and satisfy all patriotic people of Kashmir , including internally-displace d Kashmiri Hindus. It must reject outright the suggestion that "a calibrated demilitarization of the state, as the situation improves, is also called for." Now it is,to the people of India and Nationalist Forces to build pressure on Congress led UPA govt.to stops blunders in Kashmir ,Other wise a day will come when Kashmir will no more be a part of Mother-India.

AIIMS doctors claim turmeric can cure epilepsy

GOOD OLD turmeric can cure epilepsy, too, doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have found.

They have also found it effective in boosting memory and reducing stress.

Research carried out on rats at the department of pharmacology at AIIMS has yielded positive results. "Epilepsy requires long-term antiepileptic drug (AED) therapy, which is advised according to symptoms. However an effective prevention or cure for epilepsy hasn't been available and many drugs in use have side-effects," said Dr K. H. Reeta, assistant professor of pharmacology at AIIMS.

According to her even new classes of AEDs are not free of side- effects. Phenytoin is a commonly used AED that has been found effective against all types of seizures. But it also causes cognitive impairment (a condition in which thinking abilities are badly affected) in patients as it damages essential macromolecules of the body, including DNA.

"Toxicity is common in patients of epilepsy treated with phenytoin, and thus requires careful drug-level monitoring and supportive care," said Dr Yogendra Kumar Gupta, head, pharmacology department, AIIMS. "The goal of AED therapy is freedom from seizure without side-effects. But this hasn't been achieved. The reasons for this include misdiagnosis of the type of seizure and prescription of the wrong AED," Reeta said.

" Phytochemicals (chemical compounds that occur naturally in plants) have been shown to possess a wide range of properties that facilitate effective treatment without side- effects.

Therefore, we investigated the effects of administering turmeric to rats that suffered from phenytoin-induced cognitive impairment and oxidative stress (the process in which highly reactive molecules such as free radicals impair particular cellular functions)," Dr Jogender Mehla of AIIMS said.

The research team found that turmeric, when administered orally with phenytoin, significantly prevented cognitive impairment and oxidative stress.
